Isis, discovered mass grave in Palmira: 42 bodies, many women and children – The Messenger

A mass grave was discovered by militias loyal to the regime of Bashar al-Assad in a northern area of Palmyra, the historic city that the regime freed from the self-styled State Islamic (Is) last week. This was reported by the official news agency SANA, quoting a source in place, according to which for now have been found in the grave, in the district Masakin al-Jahizia, 40 bodies, most of them women and children.

According to the source , in the pit there are corpses of many women and children, and may contain many more bodies. Some of those recovered would be beheaded or would show signs of torture. Sana speculates that the bodies date from a massacre committed from Is in May 2015, when it killed over 400 people. The source finally added that they are still ongoing demining operations of the archaeological site and the Palmyra residential.

The Syrian army has regained Palmira a week ago, after that the city was left in the hands Isis for over 10 months.
