The Italian population is reduced. Not happened in 90 years
According to Istat December 31 residents were around 60,665,551, 130 thousand less than in 2014. 147 thousand Italians have emigrated, and foreign immigrants do not compensate the outputs
Obviously the triumphalism with which he announces economic recovery, the reduction of taxes and the increase of jobs is not enough to convince Italians that – cornered by an economic and social situation that does not seems acceptable to them – they decided to emigrate. According to Istat demographic balance of the national data, 31 December 2015 reside in Italy 60 million 665,551 people, of which more than 5 million foreign (the ’8.3% of national residents, 10.6% in Central and north). But the news is different: during 2015 the number of residents has decreased consistently for the first time in 90 years, with a total balance that is negative for 130,061 units. The fall exclusively to the Italian citizenship population – 141,777 residents in less – the foreign population increased by 11,716.
The causes of this phenomenon: the falling birth rate, the death of many Italians in old age, emigration of young Italians and the reduction of migration flows towards’ Italy. Result, the population that resides in Italy decreased.
LESS BIRTHS, DEATHS MORE
The falling birth rate, alas, is taking place from the distant 2008. In 2015 born are less than half a million (-17 thousand on 2014) of which about 72 thousand foreigners (14.8% of the total). Deaths on the contrary were over 647mila, almost 50 thousand more than in 2014. It is a sustained increase, attributable to both structural and cyclical factors. The excess mortality has covered the first months of the year and especially the month of July, when there were particularly high temperatures for an extended period of time.

It does not stop the aging trend of the population: the average age is 44.7 years. The natural population showed a balance (births minus deaths) loss of almost 162 thousand units. The natural balance is positive for foreign nationals (almost 66,000 units), while for residents the Italian deficit is much larger and amounted to 227,390 units.
LESS IMMIGRANTS, EMIGRANTS MOST ITALIAN
registered with the Registry from a foreign country were 280 thousand, 90% of foreigners in cases. Italians who return after a period of emigration abroad are only 30 thousand. In contrast, about 147 thousand people left our country in 2015, of which over 100 thousand of Italian citizenship. Among them is increasingly important number of foreign-born: more than 20 thousand in 2014 and about 25 thousand (estimated) in 2015. They are mainly citizens of foreign origin who emigrate to a third country or they return to the country d ‘ origin after spending a period in Italy and has acquired Italian citizenship. To these should be added also any children born in Italy, who are part of the extended family unit affected by the transfer of residence abroad.
FROM SOUTH AMERICA FOR THE PASSPORT, AND THEN VIA
The change of citizenship by country of birth seem to indicate a typical behavior of citizens from Latin American countries, with Italian grandfather, who I experience a very short period of residence in our country, for the sole purpose of acquiring citizenship “jure sanguinis” by presenting the required certifications in Registry. As well as for the previous year, in 2015 registrations from abroad concern in slightly prevalently men (53.9%), contrary to what happened in the previous decade, when they were mostly women. Compared to 2014 increased both immigrants and emigrants but with different intensities: while flows in from abroad came only recorded 0.9% more, emigration grew by almost 8 percentage points. The balance between inflows and outflows amounted to 133 thousand units. Broken down by nationality shows that the balance is negative for the Italians (-72mila) and positive for foreigners (+ 205 thousand). However, if we analyze all the entries registered in the population movement, it can be observed that many people, especially foreign ones, are erased from the population for unavailability or expiration of the residence permit. It is demographic positions relating to foreign nationals who are no longer in our country despite not having communicated the emigration abroad; these positions are then deleted office. If the compulsory cancellations for unavailability or expiration of the residence permit were added to deleted abroad would get an estimate of net migration significantly different and equal to + 47 thousand units; last year the same balance was about 82 thousand units.
200 NATIONALITY IN ITALY TOP ROMANIAN
There are about 200 nationalities in our country: more than 50% (over 2.6 million individuals) it is nationals of a European country. The most represented nationality is Romanian (22.9%) followed by Albanians (9.3%).
