Pino Daniele is dead, and the pain that affects anyone who loves music is really huge. Not only because Daniel was one of the largest among the songwriters and musicians of our country. Not only because it brought our music in the heart of the world, working with some of the biggest international musicians. But also because his songs have been an integral part of our lives, natural soundtrack of joys and sorrows, sentimental matter with which we kneaded whole days, beautiful melodies that made us cry, overwhelming rhythms that made us dance, stories that we tied to our heart and that will never go away from our memory.
He began his adventure in the world of music in full blast of rock jazz, in 1975, dividing his time between the activities of the session musician and singer and author, but the debut album comes the ‘ following year, when he released his first single, “What heat”, which leads him to public attention. E ‘with “Terra mia” of 1977, his first album, which Pino Daniele focuses his musicality, his skills as a writer, performer and guitarist, with a group of musicians, including James Senese, Enzo Avitabile Tullio De Piscopo, Rino Zurzolo, Ernesto Vitolo, Rosario Jermano, Joe Amoruso, Tony Cercola that will be with him in charge of the Neapolitan musical renaissance and that, with Augustine Marangolo and Tony Esposito, will collaborate with him for life. Just remember songs like the unreachable “Napul’è” or “My Land” and “‘Na tazzulella’ and cafe” to understand how Daniel, in his early tw enties, he had already been able to find a personal style and unmistakable. But it is with “Black in half” of 1979 that Daniel becomes a star in our music scene, an album of extraordinary beauty and originality, the disc that best told Daniel, his soul, his being profoundly Naples and at the same time a citizen the world, capable of mixing soul, blues, jazz, rock, traditional, colorful and exciting in a set, that in songs like “I say the ‘I am’ cca” or “Quanno chiove” magically met the public’s heart.
It is his third album, of the consecration: “Black in half,” the disc ” To me piace’o blues “and” Quanno chiove “. Pino Daniele relive the emotions of that project, 34 years later, with the concert event at the Arena di Verona, on the 1st of September. “We will come back with the same feeling,” he says, “is a good bet, but in the end the music always wins.” Forty years of career behind him, Pino brought his blues rock Neapolitan everywhere. “As sad and painful moments in my career not think I have had, instead of good times there have been many: the concert of Naples ’81, the concert at the Apollo in New York … I was lucky.” The celebration of “Black in Half” will not end with a concert at the Arena, will be published by some lesser period. The project is to collect them in a vinyl along with “Black in half.” Daniela Accadiariprese Fabio Lesmo
The long discography of Daniel has other magnificent pearls, from “Go mo ” to ‘Beautiful’ mbriana”, from “Bonne soiree” to “Mascalzone Latin”, from “Do not step flowers in the desert “to” Medina “, until the last” The great mother “, chapters of a remarkable musical journey, in which Daniel to put together sounds and distant cultures, without ever being provincial, always keeping our eyes open to new , looking steadily, relentlessly, to innovate, to find new ways, new insights, maybe wrong at times, but always driven by a relentless passion for music. Passion that led him to work, unique among all Italian singers, with some of the greatest musicians in the world, from Eric Clapton to Wayne Shorter, Pat Metheny, Chick Corea, by Gato Barbieri Billy Cobham, and dozens of others. It led him to collaborate with many exponents of Italian music, from Jovanotti J-Ax, by Giorgia to Eros Ramazzotti, from Sherman to Luciano Ligabue, Laura Pausini Fiorella Mannoia, to name a few. And Massimo Troisi, who was bound by a deep friendship, and for which he wrote the soundtracks of “Groundhog three”, “I thought it was love, and instead it was a gig” and “God’s ways are over.” He loved working in film and has collaborated with many other directors, by Marco Risi Vincenzo Salemme, Nanni Loy to Alessandro Siani.
From ‘Napule’ to ‘Yes I know my way’ here is a collection of concerts of Pino Daniele with the historical group along with James Senese, Rino Zurzolo, Joe Amoruso, Tony Esposito and Tullio De Piscopo
He was a man with a sweet and explosive at the same time, character exactly that poured into his music, made of strong colors as well as thin glazes, incurred from a very particular voice, based on a natural falsetto that approached the great soul singers of the African-American but he embellished with inflections Neapolitan making his unique style. And was an author can write songs destined to the history of our music, like “Alleria”, “When”, “I like me ‘or blues,” “I for her,” “Night that goes” “Je sò crazy”, just to mention a few of the many titles in bulk from a songbook rich and vast, varied and fascinating.
He had heart problems since the early nineties, and for this he had had to turn away from the scene for a few years, but he was back, from 1994 onwards, to tread the boards, with renewed energy, offering concerts more beautiful , tour musically richer, exploring new territories, presenting his best songs, giving to his city, Naples, some unforgettable events in Piazza Plebiscito, along with all of his musician friends.
There will be no way to fill the void Pino Daniele leaves in Italian music. And even that leaves in our hearts.
