Rimini Meeting, Pope and Mattarella speak of World War III – Reuters Italy

ROME (Reuters) – The risk of a third world war triggered by terrorism is mentioned in both the message of Pope Francis and in that of President Sergio Mattarella sent to the organizers of the Meeting of Communion and Liberation, which opens tomorrow in Rimini .

” One can hope still ahead of a third world war fought in pieces and with many brothers persecuted and killed for their faith? It still makes sense to love, work,

sacrifices and commit? Where does my life and the lives of the people that we would never lose? What are we to do in the world? … These are questions that arise all, young and old, believers and non-believers “, says the message of the Pope at the XXXVI edition of the Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples in Rimini .

The message of Pope Francis goes on to state that “sooner or later, at least once in their life, because of a trial or a joyous event, reflecting on the future of their children or usefulness of their work, each one is to deal with one or more of these questions. Even the most hardened denier can not eradicate them completely from their lives. Life is not an absurd desire, lack is not a sign that we are born ‘wrong’ “.

Conversely, although the title of the Meeting of Rimini there is no reference to terrorism or to war risks, also the message of Mattarella speaks of “World War III”: “Terrorism, also fueled by fanatical distortions of faith in God, is trying to introduce in the Mediterranean, Middle East, Africa, the seeds of a third world war. Our responsibility is to stop it, “writes the head of state in his message.
