Mexico, El Chapo to extradition to Us – The Messenger

“El Chapo” Guzman is a little closer to extradition to the Usa. A court in Mexico City dismissed five of the appeals of the defence, and now the powerful and bloodthirsty former super narcoboss of the cartel of Sinaloa, already escaped twice from prisons in mexico, now has only one chance in an appeal to avoid being prosecuted in Texas and California, the two american states that have asked for his transfer. Guzman has only one appeal to the Court of protection under criminal law, which is likely to be presented in the next few hours.

The request of the us justice has already been approved by the ministry of Foreign affairs and the Supreme Court of the mexican and reinforced today by the way free of the federal magistrate. But the appeal makes it still uncertain whether “El Chapo” will be extradited as early as next January or February, as he said a few days ago, the national commissioner for Security, Renato Sales, in a television interview.

Refugio Rodriguez, head of the team of ten lawyers that represent a “Chapo”, was already defined as “a personal opinion” to the statements of Sales, pointing out that having received instructions to “oppose until the last possible moment” to every request for extradition to the U.s., where his client is accused of murder, drug trafficking and the recycling of funds.

“El Chapo” was captured in January last, after his escape spectacular from the prison of El Altiplano, in the surroundings of Mexico City, through a long tunnel and 1.5 kilometers starting from the shower of his cell. Had already escaped one other time, in 2001, hidden in a basket of linen from the prison of Puente Grande (Jalisco). The former boss of the cartel of Sinaloa is now in the prison of Ciudad Juarez, on the border with El Paso (Texas), where he complains constantly of the conditions in which it is held, denouncing it as “inhumane” the isolation in which he lives.

Just yesterday, his lawyers have released a report prepared by the doctors who have examined “El Chapo”. “I remember the old things but not the most recent ones, sometimes I don’t even remember what I ate yesterday,” said superboss. The mexican authorities have rejected the complaints of the “Chapo”, indicating that in the 164 days that he spent in Ciudad Juarez has received 33 visits of his lawyers, 35 visits to family, 10 personal visits, 75 visits to general practitioners and 4 visits to medical specialists.
