E ‘became law the decree on banks. The Senate approved with 155 votes in favor and 92 against. The Government has therefore received the confidence of one of the most controversial reforms, which provides, among other things, that the banks will have to become the largest corporation.
The reform, strongly supported by the premier and Renzi by the Minister of Economy, Padoan, states that banks exceeding the threshold of the 8 billion of assets should be transformed into Spa. The first case is that of a merger of the merger of Volksbank in South Tyrol and Popolare di Marostica , operation that April will bring the two banks at 11 billion.
The next step will be the operating rules that will enact the Bank of Italy : to get rule in the banks will have almost a year and a half (16 months to be precise), but many institutions have already announced plans to convene as soon as the extraordinary shareholders’ meetings. After all the same Economy Undersecretary Pier Paolo Baretta did not rule out that “in the future we can reflect on other criteria, such as that of listed companies.” The only concession was the introduction of a temporary roof of 5% against any climbing, rewritten, in the passage in Parliament, the standard to facilitate the change of the current account, while several were touches to the chapter “Investment Compact”.
