Estelle Balet died. The champion of Extreme Snowboarding overwhelmed and killed by an avalanche – The Huffington Post

The Swiss snowboard champion has died, at age 21, swept away by an avalanche during the video shoot in the town of Orsières. A slab of snow broke away already dragging on a rocky slope. Estelle Balet, winner of the Freeride World Tour 2015, died despite the efforts of the emergency teams, he informed the police in the Valais canton.

Last year, Balet became the youngest champion of the Freeride World Tour. “Despite immediate efforts to resuscitate her, she died on the spot,” police said. “An investigation was initiated to determine the causes of the accident”. Balet had worn a device to locate people under avalanches, as well as a helmet and an airbag.

The police of Valais has opened an investigation into the avalanche that engulfed and killed the snowboard champion Estelle Balet the objective is to determine the causes of the mass of snow detachment that buried the young skier. The casting of snow had a front of some hundreds of meters and it has developed for over a kilometer. On 2 April Estelle Balet had won the second title of the Freeride World Tour by winning the stage in Verbier, Switzerland.
