The Cirinnà law today represents an historic opportunity to take a first step towards the recognition of fundamental civil and human rights. It is late to get lost in political strategies, you are talking of millions of Italians lives in concrete grueling wait to exist to state eyes. Thus began the appeal letter signed by 400 between intellectuals, writers, artists, personalities’ of the TV world of information and entertainment to urge the Parliament to approve the bill on civil unions. The appeal, launched along with an online petition on Change.org open for signature of the citizens, and ‘was promoted by the artist Sebastiano Mauri and signed among others by Andrea Camilleri, Daria Bignardi, Paolo Virzi’, Jovanotti, Tiziano Ferro and Lausa Pausini.

“to the honorable members of the Italian Parliament, the Cirinnà law today represents an historic opportunity to take a first step towards the recognition of fundamental civil and human rights. It is late to get lost in political strategies, you are talking of millions of Italians lives in concrete grueling wait to exist to state eyes. We are out of time, as clearly indicated by the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights. The law Cirinnà is already very compromise with Parliament which, in the name of an alleged child protection, choose to ignore the Italian children now grow their private rights.

When compared with current laws in countries close to us and the like, this law, as well as arriving last in Western Europe, it ensures the minimum of rights to LGBT people. A minimum beyond which no one can intrude, because it would pass a bill facade or worse detrimental, referring to the sender of legitimacy recognition of millions of Italians and their families.

“To be aware of a ‘ injustice and correct it in half, meaning perpetuate it. It is not enough not to be racist, homophobic or sexist, you must be industrious in the fight against racism, homophobia or sexism, fight them wherever they conceal, especially through the legislative instruments in the hands of Parliament. A country where all citizens, beyond gender, race, or sexual orientation, enjoy equal opportunities, it is a richer, productive and happy country. The price of exclusion is paying the entire society. Today we have the opportunity to make history, so we ask the speedy adoption of the law Cirinnà in its entirety, allowing Italy to join the rest of Europe and more and more countries around the world in recognition of fundamental rights to all its citizens “.
